8 reasons: why marrying in St Lucia makes perfect sense.

Have you ever dreamed of getting married on a white sandy beach, with a warm breeze in your hair and turquoise waters stretching out to the horizon? Or – maybe your idea of the perfect wedding is a fun-filled day in the sun, where world-class rum and fresh seafood are served on your own private yacht? These are just two of the many wedding day options available to you if you choose to marry in St Lucia.

St Lucia is a dream come true for a destinations wedding planner. It’s stunningly beautiful, with sun-soaked weather all year round, and you are spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing a venue.

Destination weddings are on the rise, and I have had the pleasure of working on some truly extraordinary overseas events, but St Lucia offers something really special.

If you still aren’t convinced, read on for eight great reasons to get married in St Lucia:

1. You can fly there directly

British Airways offer direct, non-stop flights from Gatwick to Hewanorra International Airport in St Lucia, several times a week. The total flight time is 8.5 hours – just enough time to put your feet up, sink a couple of complimentary gin and tonics, and have a refreshing snooze ahead of your big day.

2. It has incredible scenery

Yes, the beaches are fabulous, but, unlike most of the other Caribbean islands, St Lucia is a volcanic island. It boasts some stunning mountain scenery – and possibly the world’s only drive-through volcano (at La Soufriere). The centre of the island is dense with rainforest, where you can listen for hummingbirds and parrots, or search for a perfect wild orchid.

3. The weather!

We were there in the off-season and the weather was still absolutely glorious! The average monthly temperature ranges from 26C (in January) to 29C (in November), and you can expect at least eight hours of sunshine every day.

4. It’s easy to legally marry in St Lucia

There’s no residency requirement, so you can apply for a marriage licence as soon as you arrive on the island, and you can even get married the same day for just $200 (standard marriage licences are $125). See here for more information.

5. St Lucia offers a huge variety of wedding location options

St Lucia is a haven for five star resorts and intimate beachside venues – it’s almost impossible to choose a favourite. If you are looking for unbridled luxury and the convenience of a resort, try Capella Marigot Bay or the Sugar Beach resort.

For a private villa with its own infinity pool, look at Akasha St Lucia, or for historical romance, consider a local landmark like the stunning beachside ruins at Pigeon Island. Or of course, you could just take to the water and hire your own yacht or traditional ship.

6. Incredible suppliers

St Lucia’s wedding vendors might not have fancy websites, but rest assured that the island boasts some incredible suppliers. It’s the home of highly skilled cake makers, stationers, and florists who know exactly what goes into creating the perfect luxury wedding.

7. There’s so much to do (aside from getting married!)

There’s something for everyone in St Lucia. Love chocolate? Visit the ‘Tree to Bar Experience’ at Hotel Chocolat. Like keeping active? Try zip lining through the rainforest, helicopter rides over the island, sailing, fishing, scuba diving and more.

For fun-loving couples, we strongly recommend the Friday night street party in Gros Islet – great street food, live music, all-night dancing, and local booze – amazing.

8. St Lucia is the friendliest island in the Caribbean!

As soon as you arrive on the island, you will be treated like a local. What’s more, the island is gay-friendly, family-friendly and couple-friendly, so anyone can enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime experience of a St Lucian wedding.
